“ESTO ES MÉXICO”
The final work consists of a series of digitally and physically produced posters that depict commonly held stereotypes. Each piece incorporates Augmented Reality (AR) to deepen viewer engagement: when scanned with a mobile device, the initial image — representing the stereotype — animates to reveal the reality behind it. These animations portray the true richness, diversity, and culture of Mexico.
I combined physical and digital design techniques, including illustration, typography, printmaking, and AR animation, to create an interactive and immersive experience that invites viewers to question what they think they know — and see Mexico through a more accurate and human lens.
This is Mexico.
As a Mexican student studying in the United States, I was often confronted with harmful and inaccurate stereotypes about my culture and country — ideas like “Mexicans don’t do anything” “how a Mexican has to look like ,” “Tex-Mex is Mexican food,” or that “Mexico is just a desert, dirty, or that is Canún.” These experiences inspired my senior thesis, which challenges these misconceptions by showing a more authentic and personal perspective of Mexico — the Mexico I grew up in.
